A Man and His Garden

David’s grandfather has a green body. You’ve heard of people having green thumbs? Well, this man has a green body! It seems he can make anything grown. We figure he could grow palm trees in Antarctica. He grew up on a cotton farm, married his bride at the young age of 16, and they have always eaten the fruits (and veggies) of his labor. Being a pastor in the deep south, and later in KY and WV, didn’t lend to having a life of money so the Johnson family relied on their gardens to help with the food budget. Being in WV, living in a house on the outskirts on the city and in a subdivision he doesn’t have a ton of gardening space, but every available plot of earth is dedicated to vegetation, be it fruit peach and apple trees, flowers or vegetables–peas, purple hull peas, okra, tomatoes are just a few. Whenever you sit down to eat at their table you know you’ll get to eat some fresh veggies and they are good! While in WV last week I took several photos of the plants this man grows. He always has beautiful roses, which I just love. And, this time I got to see okra real and “in the flesh” growing! Beautiful, and tasty! πŸ™‚
