RaasssPberries!

Ok, only a few will get the funniness of my title and will be able to say it correctly! 🙂 Sorry for those of you who won’t get it! 🙂

ANYWAY! Here are my children enjoying raspberries. To each her/his own! The personalities of my children shine through…

Cora: always neat and clean and rarely gets anything on her face or clothes!

IMG_5549

Benjamin: often has stuff on his face and clothes, though he’s getting much better at eating a bit neater!

Rebekah: Eh! She doesn’t seem to care too much how much food she gets on her face…hands…arms…clothes (had to throw this shirt away I couldn’t get the stains out!), high chair…table…floor…dog’s head…

Snow Day!!!!!

Well, this winter has been a doozy, huh? I mean, really, it seems no matter where you live in the U.S. you are getting abnormally cold weather and way more snow than you’re accustomed too! The same is true for us. Even though we live in a the snow belt of our state we have had so much more snow than usual, and the temperatures are just so darn cold!!! The school kids have had more snow days then I think ever before, and Cora has not been happy with all the preschool she’s missing. I’m only able to appease her by saying the big kids also don’t have school. Now when I tell her she won’t have school she says, very forlornly, “even the big kids don’t?” She has also been wanting to go out and play in the snow, but with it being so cold it’s just not been safe. And, the snow we’ve had has been that powdery, non-packing snow and not overly fun to play in. However! The other day everything came together, and it was the perfect day to play in the snow! The night before, and morning of, we got dumped on–my husband figures about a foot. And the day itself was in the mid-30s, so the snow was perfect for packing (making a snowman!), and since it wasn’t bitter cold, and the sun was shining it was just the best time to bundle them up and send them out! David took them outside, and they all 3 had a blast! I took pictures from the porch as I had to keep an eye on Bekah…As they played outside I made hot cocoa inside to be ready to warm them up. I’m so thankful the Lord provided such a gorgeous day, and we were able to have them go outside! It did us all good!!

Ben wasn't too sure he wanted to go in the snow. But, David carried him down and in like 2 seconds he was having fun!

I threw a hat on Bekah's head and took her outside with me so I could get a good photo of snowman and his creators. It really was so warm (or felt that way!). No worries, she wasn't even out 5 minutes!

Sibling Love

Here’s some of the cuteness abounding in our home these days! It makes my heart burst with pride to see my 3 children love each other. Now, don’t misunderstand. They are not perfect, and they DO argue just as much as other siblings. However, they love each other and are not afraid to show it. I love watching the 2 older ones helping Bekah get toys, pull things out of her way that she shouldn’t have and do things to make her smile. I love to see Ben dole out hugs and kisses for his sisters, color and play with play-doh with Cora. One of Cora and Ben’s current fun activities is waltzing together. Yes, waltzing. We asked where they learned to dance like that, and Cora says, “George!” As in Curious George, the monkey. Made us chuckle, however it is SO dang cute to see them dancing together! I love to see Cora helping her brother put his shoes on, clean up after him without being asked, in fact she often offers. I love how she is a little mama to them and enjoys being so to them. God has blessed us richly with these children. Yes, I have days of immense frustration and times when I wonder, “what was God thinking???” but those are passing moments. And, often in those moments God will have my kids do something precious, and I’m reminded that I love them, appreciate them and am so thankful for them. We know our kids don’t always get along. However, to us, what is important is that at the end of the day they love each other and know they are loved by each other.

Fun at the Zoo

My mom has been wanting to take us to the zoo all summer, then that lead to fall, and it’s almost winter, and we finally went! You know, life just happens sometimes and things you want to happen don’t. In any case, we all went to the zoo yesterday! It’s a good zoo, on a smaller scale and perfect for small kids. We almost didn’t go because “they” were calling for rain, but we took a gamble and went. I’m so glad we did! The weather was warm (especially for October!), it was cloudy, which I actually think was good. The animals were out and active, and the kids were good and had a lot of fun! Plus, it was great to spend some time with my mom! We had a great time, and it was fun making more memories with and for the kids!

Change

CORA is doing so well with being the big sister. She is so helpful with Rebekah and is doing a good job with continuing to play and have fun with Ben. I have so enjoyed watching her with her siblings. She’s kind, gentle and loving towards them. It’s obvious she loves them, and she doesn’t hesitate to give out hugs and kisses to them. She also won’t let Ben go down for his nap, or bedtime, without his hug and kiss. She’s very eager to help me out with anything I need and finds great pleasure in picking out Rebekah’s outfit on a daily basis. I’m also finding that she needs to have her own “big girl” time. She went and spent the morning at her friends’ house last week, and it seemed to do her soul good. She was able to just be Cora and not have to also be the big sister. I’m also trying very hard to make sure to spend time with just her during the day. This usually happens during rest time when Ben and Rebekah are sleeping. I’m trying to spend that time playing a game with her, coloring, or just cuddling with her on the couch. I’m learning so much about her and am really enjoying how responsible she is becoming. She’s not perfect and we’ve had our moments of attitude adjusting and heart checks, but don’t we all? I love that we can have conversations with each other and can go beyond what her favorite toy (which is currently a Hello Kitty Lego set) and color (which is blue at the moment) are. I’m very proud of her and thankful to have her as my eldest!

BENJAMIN is doing much better than he was before. He is slowly coming around to the fact that he is no longer the baby of the family. He’s sleeping and eating more normally again. He still wants to be held a lot more than usual, but that’s OK! He’s such a sweetheart to Rebekah. When he wants to hold her he’ll sit down with his legs straight out in front of him, pat his lap and hold out his arms. It’s so precious. Often he only holds her for about 5 seconds, but other times he’ll hold her for 10 minutes! He gets most distraught if we want to take her away from him before he’s ready. He is still acting out toward Cora, but I often wonder if this is more his age and stage in life and not due to a new baby in the house. He’s still not talking all that much, but he is making more attempts at repeating words when we say them to him. He most consistently says, “booo,” which is blue and “baaaaa” which is ball. He has a name for Molly, the dog, and says “Mama.” Occasionally, he’ll say other words quite clearly, and when we look at him in disbelief he smiles and refuses to repeat. His favorite things to eat are almond butter and jelly sandwiches, strawberries, taco meat, cheese, almonds and chocolate! He wants to do everything Cora does and gets frustrated if we don’t let him. Though he may not be talking a lot (well, using words, he is very verbal!) he is quite physically coordinated. It amazes me how much he can do just being 2. I love watching him delight in hearing the train (which he says, “choo! choo!” and moves his arm up and down like he’s pulling a chain to make the sound), watching his sisters, seeing his great grandma and getting into the swimming pool. He’s a ham, our family clown and really seems to love to put smiles on the faces of those around him. He’s our hugger and has also taken to giving out kisses. I love watching his personality develop and can’t wait to see it continue to do so.

REBEKAH is growing like a weed! She is now 6+ weeks old, and it’s quite unbelievable to me! It’s amazing how fast time goes. We’ve reached that magic mark where things start to settle into place and a schedule starts to emerge. She’s eating like a champ, although we’ve had to put her on special formula like we did with Cora. She also got a version of whatever virus we’ve all had, has survived and is doing so much better! I did not like her being sick, being so little and all!!! She’s over 11 pounds and is getting so aware of her surroundings. She’s a great addition to the family, and we all enjoy watching her. It’ll be exciting to see how she develops and learn more and more about her as she grows older. God is so good to us, as a family, and David and I are so thankful for our precious kids.

A Hard Week

Last week was pretty rough. Cora got quite sick on Monday with a high fever and saying her tummy hurt. She spent the day sleeping on the couch–something she’s NEVER done in all her 4 years of life! This meant she got more attention and was needing to be cuddled, hugged and held more. I wasn’t sure how it was all going to go because Ben has been struggling so much already with not having as much attention as he’s used to. However, praise the Lord, he did just fine, and Rebekah was having a good day too.

IMG_0195

Then, on Thursday, Ben woke up from his nap with a fever and obviously not feeling well. He later threw up on David and one of our living room chairs. He was sick all day Friday and was extra clingy, whiny, etc. Rebekah was also having a bad day on Friday, and so it was really hard to balance taking care of both.

IMG_0200

To top it all off, David woke up Friday morning saying he felt like a truck had hit him. He, too, got the bug, and so spent all day Friday on the couch. Needless to say, I was at my wits’ end on Friday. I did not handle things well, but I’m so thankful for God’s grace and my family’s forgiveness. I’m glad last week is over (and glad to be able to get back to blogging) and am glad this week is going much better!
